Prompt 13. Nightmare

He rode into the darkness, convinced in his heart, for once believing in something, that he could bring him back.

He drew his sword and waited for his opponent to launch an attack, but it never came. There was nothing but fear beside him in the dark.

Crestfallen, he buried his sword into the ground, but weakened as he was, he only managed to stick the tip in and fresh, red blood seeped from where the sword pierced the dirt, which re-shaped itself and took on the look of his beloved Boromir.

He woke up screaming, and gentle arms held him. His temples were stroked and kissed and he sagged against the slender form next to him.

“My King, how I wish I knew a way to make us stop these dreams. You have dreamt of him again?” Faramir asked, starting to remove Aragorn’s sweaty nightshirt and hugging the naked man, feeling his king needed the body warmth and comfort of closeness more than he needed the new, clean nightshirt.

Having been given the precious time to collect himself, Aragorn’s eyes cleared and he hugged his Steward tightly.

“Faramir, you are indeed a balm for the heart and for my haunted mind… I am grateful I have you by my side.”

“Thank you, Aragorn,” Faramir said, “I enjoy these moments, though I wish you would seek my arms for other reasons than comfort against nightmares…”
