Chapter 6
Boromir paces back and forth in their room, Faramir should have been back a long time ago, it is almost morning already. Something has happened, he just knows it.
Finally the door opens and one of the guards carries in Faramir, his clothes are shredded and Boromir rushes to them to take his trembling brother into his arms. He ignores the guard completely as he places his little brother down on the bed and starts to frantically look for injuries, he feels his heart ache as he finds them immediately, scattered over his beloved’s chest and legs.
He jumps as the guard lays a hand on his shoulder, telling him in a business like fashion that Faramir has two days to recover and during this time Boromir will have to work alone. Boromir looks the guard in his eyes, his own glistening with despair, before acceptance sinks in and he just bows his head and nods. He holds his position of head down, hands resting gently on his distraught brother, till he hears the door fall shut.
The salty wetness on his cheek is angrily wiped away, Boromir refuses to let his little brother see him cry. He takes Faramir’s face in his hands, letting his hands caress his hair back and says to him; “Faramir, please, look at me…”
Acknowledge me, please do not go where I can’t find you, please don’t be gone…
A sigh of relief passes Boromir’s lips as hazy blue eyes try to focus on his. He moves onto the bed to gently hug his brother, stroking his back, just holding the trembling body to his own. Trying so desperately to not ask questions, to not inflict more pain, to just be here and pass on strength and love.
After a while he hears a hoarse whisper next to his ear; “Need to wash…” Boromir closes his eyes for a second and then straightens himself and slowly releases his brother to get water, soap and a soft cloth. As he places the items by the bed, he casts a look on the angry welts and thinks on hidden pain as he goes to get healing salve as well.
Slowly he removes the shredded clothes and begins to wash, dipping in the washcloth again and again in the now pinkish water, till there is only one area left.
Very carefully Boromir parts Faramir’s legs and sees the blood he feared would be there, he looks at his brother’s face and sees him give a small nod, as gently as he can he washes the hurt area, trying to focus on relieving Faramir’s pain and ignoring his own, but he feels the shiver passing through his brother’s body none the less.
After all is cleaned he applies salve to the angry welts, but when he comes to the torn opening he hesitates, before he reaches a decision, shaking fingers take the jar from him and he turns his back to let Faramir do what needs to be done. After listening to the small sounds of pain fade away he turns round again to see his brother laying on his side facing away from him. He grabs their blankets and pulls them over them both as he spoons Faramir, leaving a kiss on his temple before blowing out the candle.
Trying to somehow get these damned chains off, Haldir looks up as the door to the corridor opens, stopping his actions as he sees the guard let in the very subdued figure of Faramir, watching the boy walk with his eyes to the ground and then stopping before his cell. Haldir’s eyes narrow as Faramir slides down to the ground and winces when he hits the ground.
Something has happened in the two days since he has seen the boy last. He stares at the slumped figure, taking in a fading bruise on his face, waiting for Faramir to make the first move. After a few minutes Faramir looks up, only to look down again, a blush on his cheeks, as Haldir’s intense blue stare seems to look right through him. Haldir feels his resolve crumble at the hurt he saw in that second the boy looked up and asks; “What happened?”
“Nothing”, said so softly Haldir could hardly hear, but the next words burn inside him, “Just a customer…”
“A customer got a little rough, that is all”, Faramir looks up, his eyes are begging Haldir to please, let it go, “It happens sometimes, it is nothing.”
“Nothing…” Haldir repeats.
“Nothing.” There is a certain warning in Faramir’s voice, that Haldir recognizes and chooses to provoke further as he says; “If you say so…”
“I do say so!” Haldir watches Faramir get angry and shout at him; “What do you want? Do you want to hear that I hurt? Fine! I hurt! I have never hurt this bad, not even my first time! Do you want to hear that I am ashamed to even be in the same room as you? Fine, I am ashamed! Do you want to hear how he took what I didn’t want to give and made me want it? Made me crave, made me come and…”
Faramir’s voice trails away as tears appear in his eyes, a choked sob falls from his lips as he continues; “I did not want to, I didn’t and it hurt so bad, but still…still I..I, I must be sick, so sick, but.. I…”
“Shhh, it doesn’t matter, come here.” Haldir says holding out his arms through the bars and Faramir almost crawls over to him. Holding the boy and hearing him sob his heart out, Haldir rubs soothing circles along his back. “It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t, you were forced, the body does what the body does, it doesn’t matter, it is alright, just cry, it is alright…”
Haldir is surprised at the warmth he feels holding the sobbing body through cold iron, there is no awkwardness at consoling someone he really doesn’t know at all, just an all consuming desire to make this lost soul feel better, even if it is just for a little while. Taking the boy’s face between his hands he looks in to the reddened eyes and does what comes natural as he bends to lay the softest of kisses on lips tasting of tears.
Faramir feels himself captured between soft, sweet tasting lips and the hard steel of the bars as for a single moment he forgets all and is enwrapped in kindness, pure joy overtakes him as his dazzled mind tells him that yes, this is actually happening. An Angel’s kiss…
