7 Years of Faramir Fiction

Feb 28, 2011

The Faramir Fiction Archive is seven years old today. On this day seven years ago, a first version was put together by one half of your friendly admin duo and a link emailed to the other half. The site was unveiled to the public 5 days later, on March 4, 2004.

For the fourth anniversary, we asked all authors and artists to search your hard drives for any half-forgotten, never posted stories, art or challenges, send them in for a 5 day posting fest. On the fifth anniversary, we asked the readers to do something back for the authors and artists whose work built this archive, and go back to their all-time favourites to comment and thank the author/artist for her work. And last year, on the sixth anniversary, we asked everyone which story they thought was still missing from the archive after six years, that is to say, to send in their challenges for the story they’ve always wanted to see.

And now, for our seventh birthday, we’d like to ask you to write, draw, create something inspired by the number seven. Whether it’s a 7 line drabble, or a story inspired by one of the seven sins (anger, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, gluttony) or a drabble each, the or one of the many sevens that keep popping up in Tolkien’s work— whatever gets your creative juices flowing, as they say…

No deadlines, no word limits — total freedom to do whatever you want. We’d be honoured if you’d want to help us celebrate our birthday!

“Tall ships and tall kings
Three times three
What brought they from the foundered land
Over the flowing sea?

Seven stars and seven stones
And one white tree.”

from: ‘The Palantir’, The Two Towers

Wow, congratulations! :)

I for myself liked the idea of a “7”-inspired piece. There are seven days in a week, seven sins, seven virtues, seven… what more is there, fitting for some stories?

Yep, good idea about the 7 thing!
What if each author can do what he or she will, as long as it is related to the number 7? I think I’d be tempted by a series of drabbles featuring my seven favourite characters…
What more is there? The seven Dwarf-rings, the seven Seeing stones, the seven circles of Minas Tirith… the seven colours of the rainbow…

By the way, I love the pink decoration of the site today, though it does feel so strange !

I’m going to have to agree with the idea already mentioned above, a story or drabble somehow tied in to the number seven sounds really intriguing and I’ll definitely be taking part!

Also, huge congratulations on 7 years! :D

Congratulations! This site is such a lovely little place in cyberspace. Thank you so much for all the work you’re putting into it!

Oh, and Nerey Camille, I love the idea about the seven circles of Minas Tirith! I could definitely be inspired by that…

Hello,

happy birthday, FaramirFiction! I’m not registered, but I still highly enjoy reading, writing feedback and responding challenges privately, so your site offers quite some pleasant hours of internet fun. I thank you sincerely for that.

By the way, I love the new layout. Sweet! Kinda reminds me on autumn, not spring, but it’s still beautiful – congratulations to the creator.

To (at least) another 7 years! proposes a toast

Congrats!
Gosh, when I first came to the page all pink, nearly fell off my chair, lol))
Anyway, I love the idea, and, actually, have long been working on and off on a story involving numbers. Only the number there was not 7, but rather 14 – representative of the two sets of the Powers, the Valar and Valier. Does it still fit the scheme?

Oh great! I’ve just seen the 7 theme. Well, I’ll have to start working on something!

December, I daresay you fit the scheme twice: seven Valar and seven Valier!

By the way, Iris and Minx, I’d like to thank you in this oh the most auspicious of days for your wonderful work on this archive! May it never wither!

elektra121 – that’s a great idea! hope we can tempt you into conrtibuting!

Nerey Camille – there are indeed a lot of sevens in Tolkien’s work… may they give you lots of inspiration! (and glad you liked the pink decor – though not to worry, we’re back to normal for the rest of the year)

Eora – thank you for your kind words, and we’d be so honoured if you would do a drabble or a fic – you know how I love your work!

Geale – Glad you like the site – thank *you* for making it what it is by sharing your lovely fics!

Aneyrin – *raises glass* thank you! Hope you’ll let us see some of your responses to challenge one day! No need to be registered or anything like that, just email us at admin@faramirfiction.com!

December – that story sounds perfect! The more sevens, the better, I say;) Best of luck with it!

and Nerey Camille again – thanks, and here’s to the next seven years!
