Not a hero unless you die…

Faramir’s chest almost exploded from the force of his roar. His voice was hoarse and menacing, carrying all of his fury.

If his wrath could have materialized, it would have wiped the field before him clean, killing everything indiscriminately. He had never been so enraged, so consumed.

But then, he had never been so utterly hurt.

His brother, his golden beloved brother was dead. Decomposing somewhere in foreign waters, fertilizing the soil of Eru knew whose undignified garden or barren patch of scrub…

It might as well have been his last battle, but he would wipe out as many of the hideous creatures as he could before he fell.

For the first time in his life the humble, good-natured young captain regretted he was not a god. He would have plunged the whole world into oblivion, for no matter how beautiful the world on which Anor shed her light was, it all amounted to nothing if Boromir was not in it…

His wishes were only selectively granted, as he was nearly killed in the battle and what the foul creatures did not manage, his mad father almost finished, if it hadn’t been for Beregond.

The lithe young guard who pulled him from the inferno and who held him, washing his soot-and-sweat-covered face with warm tears….

Beregond the heart thief, who now held Faramir’s in the cradle of his war-hardened hands.
